I recently acquired a pretty black one shoulder dress, and it has been making waves ever since. To the unimaginative mind, the dress might seem limited in terms of usage. Where else can you wear this lace number aside from formal events? However, I am nothing if not resourceful, so I managed to successfully wear this dress at work, at a casual date, at a dive bar, and at an all girls’ night out. Here are my four different looks:
At first glance, this one shoulder black dress seems all wrong for the office. However, with a few classy tweaks, one can look polished and professional in this hot number. For work, I paired it with my black fitted long sleeved blazer. I chose to wear opaque gray stockings and low black satchel pumps. My hair was elegantly pulled back in a bun, and my only accessories were a pair of perfect little pearl earrings and a slim leather wristwatch. Who would have thought that this cocktail dress can be worn in the office?
For a casual date with that special someone, this black one shoulder cocktail dress is best worn bare-legged. I opted to wear a pair of basic black ballet flats, and a plain black headband accentuated my head. My sequined, faux distressed, dark bebe denim jacket completed the look. At a glance, I seemed like a stylish yet easygoing girl; one who is ready for anything – from a quiet dinner at a cozy cafe to a fun run-around at the nearest amusement park.
Wearing this black lace one shoulder dress at a dive bar was challenging but definitely worth it. For this, I pulled out my tooled French cut leather jacket, and I dusted off my black and silver knee high boots. Since I was aiming for a wild and tousled look, I let my hair down without styling it too much. Accessories were down to a minimum – a simple bcbg scarf and purse. I definitely turned heads while wearing this outfit and no one came close to suspecting that this was even a dainty cocktail dress.
Girls’ Night Out
For a girls’ night out, I try to avoid looking overly sexy. The keywords here are fun and glitzy. My one shoulder black lace dress definitely fits the bill, and I was happy to wear it with a pair of stylish red-soled black pumps. My long hair was loosely curled and streamed prettily down my shoulders. Clasping my slim wrist is a wide gold cuff, and dangling down my ears were sparkly black and gold earrings. If it gets too cold, I can simply shrug on my trendy red bolero.
Having worn this dress in several different ways, I can certainly say that this was a worthy acquisition. Even up to now, this perfect little dress never fails to surprise me in terms of its style and versatility. It is true what they say: The perfect little black dress is a must for every stylish girl.
